Portfolio 15 decodes design on day One


Pearl Academy, India’s leading higher education institute for design, fashion and creative business courses, kicked off its grand three day annual event- Portfolio’ 15 today. More than 500 innovative final year projects made by the graduating students from various UG and PG courses were displayed at the mega exhibition at NSIC Exhibition Grounds, Okhla. Spread across more than 40,000sq ft., the exhibition was open to all and received a stupendous response from school students from various schools in Delhi/NCR region. Footfall crossed beyond 1500 audiences making PORTFOLIO’15 the most happening event of the town.


With the customary lamp lighting ceremony, the day began and so did the exhibition, showcasing students’ projects which are a testament of their hard work. Many of the projects incorporated the ‘Make in India’ initiative with revival of old design techniques, supporting heritage craftsmen, trendy clothing line manufactured in India, et al. To quote one, Anand Banik from the School of Creative Business made a project on ‘Impact of Make in India Initiative in Apparel Industry’ and suggested how we can profitably execute this concept of Make in India.


There were many other projects supporting the prevailing issues in the social and economic sphere in India. Sugandhi Mehrotra conceptualized Khirki Village with better sanitation facilities and better living through her project involving urban development of this area.

The highlight of the first day of this three day extravaganza was exclusive ‘Design Immersion’ experience for school students. Over 1500 students from 9th grade and above attended these workshops in Product Design, Styling, Photography, Jewellery Design etc. by experts from Pearl Academy. A window to the world of creativity, these workshops engaged students and gave them a real time exposure of the creative industries.


Students from more than 25 reputed schools such as Delhi Public School, Army Public School, Heritage School, Modern School (BK), Sanskriti and Tagore International School among others were excited to be a part of the Portfolio.


Day 2 at Portfolio only gets more exciting with fashion shows and special presence of India’s most celebrated costume designer Manish Malhotra as Guest of Honour.
